The 2021 Giro d’Italia will start in Turin

The 2021 Giro d’Italia will get underway in Turin with a nine-kilometer individual time trial, organizers announced on Thursday.

The 104th edition of the Giro will run from May 8 to 30, and its Grande Partenza in Turin will come 10 years after the last time the race kicked off in the Piedmont capital.

Following the opening time trial, where world champ Filippo Ganna will be a favorite to add to the four Giro stages he claimed last year, the race will stay in the Piedmont region for the following two days.

Stage 2 will be a chance for the fast finishers after 173 km of racing Stupinigi to Novara. stage 3 will close out with a hiller finish after 187 km of racing from Biella to Canale.

The Giro peloton will then head south and east from there, but it will return to the Piedmont region later in the race. Stage 19 will close out with a summit finish at the Alpe di Mera, and riders will roll out from Verbania on stage 20.
