Niki Terpstra was hospitalized after crashing heavily during a training ride on Tuesday. According to NOS, the two-time Monument winner suffered multiple serious but not life-threatening injuries.

The 36-year-old Dutchman was motorpacing with friends in the Netherlands when he swerved to avoid geese, hit a rock, and crashed.

According to NOS, he was then helicoptered to a hospital, reportedly having suffered a collapsed lung, a concussion, broken ribs, and a broken collarbone.

Fortunately, he “is not in mortal danger,” according to a social media post from his wife, but he is expected to remain at the hospital for some time.

Terpstra, who won Paris-Roubaix in 2014 and the Tour of Flanders in 2018, has spent his fair share of time recovering from injury lately. He sustained a concussion in a crash at the Tour of Flanders last year, his first season with Direct Energie after eight years with the Deceuninck-Quick-Step organization. Then, after returning to racing, he crashed out of the Tour de France, fracturing his scapula.

Terpstra had been eyeing another Classics campaign and a possible Tour start when he crashed on Tuesday.
