Team TotalEnergies and B&B Hotels-KTM receive wild card Tour de France invites
On Friday the ASO confirmed Team TotalEnergies, B&B Hotels-KTM, Alpecin-Fenix, and Arkéa-Samsic as the four ProTeams that will compete in the 2022 Tour de France. As the top two UCI ranked ProTeams Alpecin-Fenix and Arkéa-Samsic were already guaranteed a spot, while Team TotalEnergies and B&B Hotels-KTM have been tapped as the two wild card entries.
The remaining 18 teams are, of course, the 18 WorldTeams automatically guaranteed entry.

Neither of the wild card invitations is surprising, given the ASO’s affinity for French teams. Both Team TotalEnergies and B&B Hotels-KTM were present in the 2019, 2021 and 2020 Tours de France. Team TotalEnergies has participated in the Tour de France since it’s formation in 2000 as Bonjour-Toupargel.
The inclusion of Team TotalEnergies means Peter Sagan is likely to start the Tour de France on July 1 in Copenhagen. Sagan, and Specialized, were TotalEnergies big additions for 2022. The three-time World Champion has yet to start racing in 2022 but rumour has it he will kick off his season with Tour des Alpes Maritimes et du Var on February 18th in preparation for opening weekend in Belgium.
