TDF rumor mill: Peter Sagan will join Team TotalEnergies

The rumors had been doing the rounds for a while but now Wielerflits reports that Peter Sagan will join Team TotalEnergies on a three-year deal from 2022. He will bring Specialized onboard for the French team who are currently riding Wilier bikes.

Team manager Jean-René Bernaudeau couldn’t confirm the news just yet but was quoted saying: “I am still waiting for the signatures of all the parties involved.”

Sagan will allegedly sign the deal after the Tour de France and will get to bring his entourage, including riders like his brother Juraj, Daniel Oss, Maciej Bodnar and Erik Baska. Sagan also has his personal soigneur, mechanic and press officer to bring to the new team.

The three-time world champion has a personal contract with Specialized and the American brand will come with him to the French team. According to Wielerflits, Bora-hansgrohe will also stay on Specialized in 2022.

Patrick Lefevere already signed a new six-year deal with Specialized last month and indicated he was not interested in signing Peter Sagan. He feels he can get the Slovak champion back on track but doesn’t want to have a team within a team.

Team TotalEnergies is a UCI ProTeam and currently has ten riders signed for 2022. Although the team isn’t a WorldTour team they often receive wildcards for the Flemish and Ardennes Classics, as well as the Tour de France.
