SwiftCarbon auctions bike for mental health awareness
It was a year ago that Jonathan Cantwell a husband, father, former pro cyclist and a friendly face in the Melbourne cycling scene left this world. In memory of Cantwell, SwiftCarbon is auctioning off a bike with proceeds going towards mental health support and awareness initiatives.
Cantwell rode SwiftCarbon bikes in his time with Drapac Professional Cycling and afterwards. At the same time he was an employee of SwiftCarbon and steered SwiftCarbon Australia, including opening his own concept store in Melbourne. A press release from the bike company reads, [We] wanted to honour Cantwells life, painting a special, one-of-a-kind Ultravox, his favourite.
Cantwell’s enormous smile remains fresh in the minds of many.
SwiftCarbons Head of Brand, Neil Gardiner, said With a matter so close to our hearts, there was much debate about the frames design. In the end, the sentiment of openness and honesty prevailed. We wanted to continue to raise awareness of this important issue and to maintain the energy of the movement, to encourage dialogue, and for everyone to watch out for one another.
The bike being auctioned has Its ok not to be ok emblazoned across the top tube. According to the company, the bike is painted in pure white, signifying peace; detailed in green for hope, and the initials JC sit alongside SwiftCarbons motto ‘Always Racing’ on the seat tube.
The bike is built with a Shimano Ultegra groupset and Mavic Cosmic Carbone wheels. Its being auctioned online, ending November 21 (8:01pm GMT), with proceeds to be donated to Lifeline Australia, Samaritans in the UK, Australian social enterprise PUKA Up, and a charity of the winning bidder’s choice. And with just a few days left to bid and currently no takers, this bike is looking primed to give someone quite the bargain.
