Sunweb drops as title sponsor, team will continue as Team DSM
Team Sunweb will continue its men’s and women’s WorldTour teams and development team as Team DSM from 2021. The Dutch company takes over from Sunweb as title sponsor. The holiday company joined in 2017 as title sponsor but suffered big losses in the global pandemic.
The news was announced on Friday at the DSM innovation campus. DSM, originally the Dutch State Mines, innovated from a mining company in the south of the country to a global company focusing on health, nutrition and sustainable living. DSM was already the innovation partner of Team Sunweb providing among others the Dyneema fabric that protects riders against skin loss at crashes. DSM will also produce the new team clothing together with Bioracer.
DSM’s strategic objective in partnering with one of the world’s leading cycling teams in the UCI WorldTour is to increase public engagement in the importance of the health of people and of the planet, in line with the company’s purpose, the press release stated.
The team will also drive Volvo team cars in 2021 and makes the switch to Scott bikes, from Cervelo.
