Spectator who caused crash at Tour will appear in court in October
The spectator who caused a crash on stage 1 of the Tour de France has been released from police custody but must appear in court in October.
Six days ago, the spectator caused a massive crash in the peloton by holding a cardboard sign that protruded into the road as the pack approached. Tony Martin (Jumbo-Visma) collided with the sign, leading to a big pileup the spread across the road. The spectator initially fled the scene.
The ASO and the CPA both filed complaints and a police investigation was opened into the incident for “involuntary injuries with incapacity not exceeding three months by manifestly deliberate violation of an obligation of safety or prudence.”
On Wednesday, the spectator reportedly turned herself in, and she then spent two nights in police custody.
She has since been released, but the prosecutor’s office in Brest has said that she will appear in court on October 14 to face potential charges.
