Specialized 3D-printed Mirror saddle tech trickles down
It’s no secret that we’re fans of the 3D-printed saddle technology. A few of the CyclingTips team have spent time on the Specialized S-Works Power with Mirror saddle and have each come away hating how good this eye-wateringly expensive saddle really is.
Fizik made the first move by trickling the same technology down to slightly lower price points, and today Specialized announced a similar move. The new Specialized Power Mirror Pro is effectively the same saddle that we’ve raved about previously, but with a lower cost base and a swap from carbon fibre rails to titanium. Such a swap brings the price down to US$325 / AU$500 / £290. That’s a US$125 / AU$190 / £100 saving over the original S-Works version.
This new Pro version features a thermoplastic carbon fibre base with 15% reclaimed carbon fibre, whereas the S-Works version offers a full carbon fibre base. Between this and the titanium rails, the Pro version is 55 grams heavier, with a quoted weight of 245 g (143 mm width).
Somewhat surprisingly, those titanium rails are claimed to be more durable and so the new Power Pro with Mirror is now rated for gravel and mountain bike use, too.
Despite being a cheaper option, this new saddle remains a lot of money and I’m hopeful that the price points continue to trickle down further. In the meantime, the annoyingly-comfortable Power Mirror is now just that little bit more accessible.
The next model down in Specialized’s short-nose saddle range is also worth a look, the Power Pro Elaston with Mimic.
