SD Worx gets even stronger with Moolman Pasio signing
Boels-Dolmans, which will become SD Worx next season, has announced the signing of climbing talent Ashleigh Moolman Pasio as well as up-and-comer Nikola Nosková.
Moolman Pasio, 34, will join the squad after two seasons with the CCC-Liv organization, and will bolster what is already a very strong collection of climbers at SD Worx with yet another major talent. She is coming aboard on a two-year deal.
“I think that with Moolman we have contracted one of the best climbers in the women’s peloton,” said Boels-Dolmans manager Danny Stam.
“She can always be seen on the first row of the group when the road climbs. With Ashleigh I hope to have an extra strong rider in the final of the toughest races on the calendar. In this way we can ride more dominantly.”
Moolman-Pasio, South Africa’s current and multi-time national champion in the road race and time trial, has finished in the top 10 in the past three editions of the Giro Rosa, riding to runner-up honors there in 2017. She has won the Emakumeen Bira and a handful of one-day races over the course of her career, and is a perennial contender in the Ardennes Classics as well.
Her arrival will give SD Worx, which will already has world champ, Giro winner, and Ardennes star Anna van der Breggen as well as former world champ and 2018 Amstel Gold Race winner Chantal Blaak on the roster, even more firepower in climber-friendly races.
“It is the strength of the team that they are able and willing to play multiple aces in the finale of the big races,” Moolman-Pasio said. “Although the team changes next year, the core remains largely the same. With this strong team we have many options next season. We can play different tactics in the finals. This makes us unpredictable for the competition and will make the races even better to watch for our fans.”
Nosková, 23, is the Czech Republic’s reigning time trial champ and an emerging all-round talent.
“Where Moolman has proven already her strength in climbing, I think Noskova can also become a climber for the future,” Stam said. “She has a lot of talent to play a decisive role in the hill classics and multi-stage races.”
