SBT GRVL, Leadville 100 cancelled for 2020
Two of the marquee events in the American off-road racing scene have been cancelled for 2020.
Organizers of the SBT GRVL race, which was scheduled to take place on August 16 in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, announced on Wednesday morning that this year’s race has been cancelled amid coronavirus concerns.
A few hours later, the organizers of the Leadville Race Series announced that all events – including the popular Leadville Trail 100 MTB race – are cancelled for this year following a decision by the Lake County Board of County Commissioners to call off all large events this summer.
The Leadville 100 MTB had been planned for August 15.
“Given the decision of the Lake County Commissioners, which we fully support, we will be cancelling the series for 2020, for the health and safety of all,” said Kimo Seymour, president of Life Time Athletic Events, which owns the Leadville Races.
“Our team will look forward to bringing the events back in 2021 when we get to the new normal, but for now, we’re sure going to miss our athletes and sponsors. Our sincere hope is that our friends and business partners in the community can survive the financial impact of this difficult decision.”
In light of the cancellations, organizers of both SBT GRVL and the Leadville Race Series have announced that registrants can either defer their entry to the future, or request a refund.
