TORQUAY, Australia (CT) – Sam Bennett (Deceuninck-QuickStep) has taken victory in the inaugural men’s Race Torquay after outsprinting Giacomo Nizzolo (NTT) and Alberto Dianese (Sunweb).

The race was contested over 10 laps of a 13.3 km circuit around the beachside town of Torquay and saw several breakaways get clear throughout. A five-rider bunch led proceedings from laps 2 through 6 but was caught as the pace increased in the bunch. Daryl Impey (Mitchelton-Scott) and Dries Devenyns (Deceuninck-QuickStep) got clear on lap 7 but were caught by the time the peloton began the final lap.

There were several attacks in the final time around the circuit but it all came back together for a bunch sprint were the Irishman Bennett proved strongest.
