Salsa Cycles and Whisky Parts Co issue safety notice on select Carbon handlebars
Salsa Cycles and Whisky Parts Co – two brands under the umbrella of USA distribution giant Quality Bicycle Products (QBP) – have issued stop-ride notices on select Carbon drop handlebars. The safety notice comes before the official voluntary recalls, which are still being finalised with the relevant government bodies.
For Salsa Cycles, the recall is related to select Salsa Cowchipper Carbon and Cowbell Carbon handlebars that were provided to retailers from December 2017 through to August 10, 2022. Meanwhile, the equivalent handlebars sold under the Whisky Parts Co label are the No.9 12F and No.9 24F Drop Handlebars which were delivered to retailers between the same dates as the Salsa handlebars.
Across the four affected handlebar models, there have been reports of cracking where the brake/shift levers are installed.
The Whisky handlebars are an aftermarket product, while the affected Salsa handlebars were available aftermarket and with numerous complete bike models. Those impacted Salsa Cycle complete bike models include:
Salsa Cutthroat, Salsa Warbird, and Salsa Warroad bicycles with affected handlebars:
- 2019 Salsa Cutthroat Force 1 – Teal, All-Sizes
- 2019 Salsa Warbird Ultegra Di2 – Gray Zebra, All Sizes
- 2020 Salsa Warroad Carbon Force AXS 700 – Pink/Yellow, All Sizes
- 2020 Salsa Cutthroat GRX810 Di2 – White, All Sizes
- 2020 Salsa Warbird Carbon GRX 810 Di2 – Pink, All Sizes
- 2021 Salsa Cutthroat AXS Eagle – Black, All Sizes
- 2021 Salsa Warbird AXS Wide – Gold, All Sizes
Of note, this is the second voluntary recall affecting select owners of Salsa bike models. Salsa Cycles had previously recalled the carbon forks on its 2019 Warbird Carbon and 2020 Cutthroat bikes.
Both QBP-owned brands have stated that they are working to resolve the issue with replacement products. “We are truly sorry for this situation and thankful for your patience. We will do our best to minimize your inconvenience,” reads the notice posted to the blogs of both brands.
