Rules are made to be obeyed: EF Education-Nippo Unveil new UCI compliant kit

Not content with maintaining cycling’s status quo, EF Education has often been willing to push the boundaries of the common and acceptable. While its alternative calendar and behind the scenes videos have created many fans, the team’s duck-inspired team kit for the 2020 Giro d’Italia served to upset the UCI.

The hate-it or love-it style kit designed by skate brand Palace resulted in a hefty fine for the team due to breaches of the UCI regulation 1.12.007/1.4 which relates to “Non-compliant clothing during podium obligations”.

Determined not to fall foul of the rules again, EF Education-Nippo, together with Rapha, has designed the 2021 team kit to be “the world’s most compliant jersey”. With rules around the location and spacing of sponsor’s logos, Rapha’s designers have decided to leave all their design work and measurements on the final printed jersey to demonstrate its compliance with the rules.

Gone is the team’s previous pink and blue colour run design, perhaps to the disappointment of many, replaced with a solid block of pink. If we had to guess, this won’t be the last kit EF launches in 2021.
