Roglic storms to victory on stage 8 of the Vuelta a España

Primoz Roglic picked up his second victory so far at this year’s Vuelta, along with some valuable seconds in the GC battle, on Wednesday’s stage 8.

The defending overall champ battled with the other red jersey contenders on the challenging Alto de Moncalvillo finishing climb before jumping clear in the finale to cross the finish line solo. He took the win 13 seconds ahead of Richard Carapaz with Dan Martin in third on the day, 19 seconds back.

Carapaz continues to lead the race but Roglic moved up into second overall at 13 seconds back with his strong performance. Martin remains third, 28 seconds back, while Hugh Carthy dropped from second to fourth, 44 seconds down, after finishing 20 seconds behind Carapaz.
