Reactions: Stage 9 had the peloton on their hands and knees
Reactions: Stage 9 had the peloton on their hands and knees
One-hundred and forty-five kilometers, 4,500 meters of climbing, rain all day – welcome to stage 9 of the 2021 Tour de France.
The day began with both Mathieu van der Poel and Primoz Roglic opting to head home and ended with Australian Ben O’Connor (AG2R-Citroën) soaring to the stage victory and leaping up to second overall. Tadej Pogačar (UAE Team Emirates) continued to stamp his authority on the race and extended his lead.
In between, the sprinters suffered like hell. Stage 3 winner Tim Merlier (Alpecin-Fenix) was a DNF. French sprinters Arnaud Démare (Groupama-FDJ) and Bryan Coquard (B&B Hotels p/b KTM) both fell victim to the difficult terrain and brutal weather, finishing outside the time limit. The Manx Missile Mark Cavendish (Deceuninck–QuickStep) just barely survived to race another day, as he made the time cut by less than two minutes.
All in all, it was a tough day for everyone in the peloton and they were a lively bunch discussing it on Twitter once they had showered and eaten. Enjoy!
I burned 5.094 kcal in today’s stage. Off to dinner

Podría decir tantas cosas sobre el etapón de hoy pero para que os hagáis una idea , hemos perdido unos 10 años de vida .

Thoughts of a neo-pro at the TDF pt.2 “going in a 2 man breakaway to get a head start on 4000m climbing sounds like a great idea”

Today before start I put some vaseline on my arms and legs to protect the skin from rain and cold. @sonnycolbrelli looked at me, smiled and did this: 🤌🤌🤌🤌🤌🤌🤌

#TheRealTDF started today: was too tired to remember to tweet this before the stage, which just shows we are in proper GT racing. Not to mention the first mountaintop finish.

One hell of a day in @LeTour. Thanks to all the people on the side of the road waiting in the rain to cheer us on. You were very important today!

Second day in the Alps, with more rain, cold, hard climbs and a strong pace. Fortunately, I’m quite well taking into account what my crash could have caused to me. Tomorrow, we have a well-deserved rest day and then we continue the long road to Paris. pic.twitter.com/jDkot4eI9V
