Quintana avoids serious injury after being hit by car while training
Nairo Quintana was hit by a car while out on a training ride in Colombia with his brother and Arkéa-Samsic teammate Dayer Quintana on Friday. The two-time Grand Tour winner said on social media that he had sustained scrapes and bruises and was awaiting some medical checks, but he avoided serious injury in the incident.
According to a post from the local municipality’s Twitter account, a driver had performed an “improper maneuver,” colliding with Quintana.
Quintana explained on social media that he was knocked down in the collision, suffering a scrape on his left elbow and bruises to knee and thigh.
Local media reports that he was seen by a doctor but did not go to the hospital.
“We are waiting on some tests to rule out any injury that might affect me in my preparation for the goals ahead,” the 30-year-old Colombian said on social media. “I’ll provide a new update soon. For now, thanks for your message of support and your prayers. I wanted to tell you that I’m okay, and surely I’ll come out of this better.”
