A lumpy day out as the peloton makes its way through the departments of Loire, Haute-Loire and Lozère. It’s a day that screams breakaway for the riders who have kept their powder dry for the past two weeks. Two pairs of third-category climbs bookend the stage before the finale, which will see the peloton tackle the Côte de la Croix Neuve Montée Jalabert – only 3 km long but at 10.2%.
Who will win stage 14?
This is a day with breakaway written all over it, while behind the GC teams will keep control before the final kilometres where small gaps could be squeezed out on the punchy climb.
Last time we were here in 2015, Steve Cummings took the win and now shares his wealth of experience as head sports director at Ineos Grenadiers. Maybe it’s another day for Tom Pidcock, or Dani Martínez could be let off the leash to boost his morale? It’s a golden opportunity for Frenchman Thibaut Pinot (Groupama-FDJ) who finished second behind the Brit in 2015, and while we’re rolling back the years, maybe it’s a chance for then fourth-place Rigoberto Urán (EF Education-EasyPost) to show himself after a disappointing Tour so far.
Also look out for Dylan Teuns (Bahrain-Victorious), Pierre Latour (TotalEnergies), Michael Woods, or his Israel-Premier Tech teammate Jakob Fuglsang to make it four Danish stage wins in five days.
