Pinarello officially unveils the new Crossista F cyclocross bike

Pinarello has taken this weekend’s cyclocross World Championships as the opportunity to officially announce the new Crossista F. We first spotted the new Crossista F in a photo on Tom Pidcock’s Strava, the young Brit has since raced the new Pinarello ‘cross bike throughout his 2021/22 cyclocross season. With two world cup wins and multiple CX podiums on a fully painted bike, Pidcock has played his part in making the Crossista F the worst kept secret in cyclocross.

“Ssshhh, If anyone asks, you didn’t see this”. Pidcock in race action aboard the prototype Crossista F pre-launch.

Pidcock also played a significant role in the development of the new bike. Despite joining the Ineos Grenadiers for 2021, Pidcock raced a Specialized Crux right up to the World Champs in January 2021. It was clear Pinarello would have to develop a new ‘cross bike for their young star.

Pinarello started working on the new bike immediately following those 2021 World Championships. Pidcock and his coach, Kurt Bogaerts, worked directly with Pinarello’s R&D team to create the new Crossista. The Ineos pairing wanted to redesign the top tube and front triangle for faster transitions and a more comfortable hold when running with the bike. Pinarello also tweaked the geometry and bottom bracket height. The Italian company has not given any specific details on these tweaks or published a geometry chart, but we have requested more information and will bring that to you as we get it. Pinarello did say the geometry tweaks offer “better control and a more precise riding position, allowing Tom to take full advantage of his peerless bike handling skills.”

The new Crossista blends a modern aero road bike with aero profiling and internal cable routing, with ‘cross bike design staples like the single bottle cage mount and shoulder-friendly top tube. Pidcock and Bogaerts also requested additional water drainage holes to ensure the rider is never carrying any excess weight in the form of water trapped in the frame.

Pinarello had the first prototype ready in September. Pidcock was already riding a refined second prototype when he made his cyclocross seasonal debut in Boom on December 4th. This second prototype was already hugely successful, with Pidcock powering and carrying it to two World Cup victories. Still, Pinarello found another evolution in the design and carbon layup to create the final production model Crossista F which Pidcock will race the World Champs on this weekend.

Pidcock’s new Crossista F weighs in at a claimed 7.39kg (no mention of if this includes pedals), putting it impressively close, for a cyclocross bike, to Pinarello’s new Dogma F road machine.

The new bike will be available from Q4 2022. Pinarello will offer the new bike in Pidcock’s navy and gold, British & Olympic champion colourway. For those not a fan of that very bling paint job, Pinarello will offer two additional, as of yet unannounced, colours later this year. Neither pricing nor build options have been announced yet.

Pinarello will premiere a documentary on the development of the new bike at 6:30 pm (UTC+1) Saturday 29th January.
