Peter Sagan tests positive for COVID-19 again
A little less than a year after a COVID-19 positive derailed the offseason ahead of his 2021 campaign, Peter Sagan (DirectEnergies) has again tested positive for the virus as he preps for the 2022 season.
After the news initially emerged via a tweet by Ciro Scognamiglio of La Gazzetta dello Sport on Tuesday, Sagan himself confirmed on social media that both he and his brother and DirectEnergies teammate Juraj Sagan had returned positive results on COVID-19 tests.
“My brother Juraj and I took Covid-19 tests which, unfortunately, came out positive,” Sagan wrote. “We have symptoms related to the virus and we are following the corresponding guidance set by the relevant authorities. I’ll keep you posted.”
Sagan’s COVID-19 positive seems likely to prevent him from participating in activities with his new team. DirectEnergies is set to unveil its kit and also host a training camp next week in Spain.
Sagan joined the French ProTeam on a two-year deal this season after spending the past five years with the Bora-Hansgrohe team.
