Another week is underway with updates from teams around the peloton.
Sunweb is holding a training camp in Austria, but Michael Storer isn’t in attendance anymore. The team sent him home as a precautionary measure after he violated team bubble rules by leaving the hotel last week for a shopping trip.
Meanwhile, Arkéa-Samsic has to be happy that Nairo Quintana is back to training. The two-time Grand Tour winner sustained some scrapes and bruises when he was hit by a car a little over a week ago but he is apparently back on the bike now.
And then there’s Bahrain-McLaren. According to Cyclingnews, the team is in the market for a sponsor to replace McLaren less than a year after the company became a part of the team name.
Interesting times in the world of team sponsorship, as ever.

| Storer kicked out of Sunweb training camp for violating team bubble rules
Michael Storer has been sent home from Sunweb’s training camp in Austria as a safety measure after breaking team rules put in place to maintain social distancing within his “bubble” in the team. As Wielerflits reports, Storer left the team hotel to do a bit of shopping, in violation of the team’s rules.
“It is purely as a precaution and Michael himself fully understands it,” a team spokesperson told Wielerflits. “Elite sport in the time of coronavirus is a new situation for everyone. A lot is demanded of people and of course we also understand that riders and staff have to get used to this.”
| Quintana returns to training
Nairo Quintana is back on his bike.
CiclismoInternacional shared a video sent by Colombian cyclist Jose Leonel Díaz showing Quintana back out on the roads on Saturday, only a little over a week after he was hit by a car and left with some scrapes and bruises.
| Bahrain-McLaren reportedly searching for a new sponsor
Less than a year into McLaren’s tenure as a title sponsor of Bahrain-McLaren, the team is reportedly looking for a new partner to take over in that role, according to Cyclingnews.
As Cyclingnews reports, McLaren has faced financial difficulties amid the coronavirus pandemic, and could withdraw as a title sponsor at the end of this year. Bahrain-McLaren team owner Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa remains committed to keeping the team going, however, meaning that the squad is expected to continue into 2021.
| Zabel renews with Israel Start-Up Nation
Rick Zabel will ride on with Israel Start-Up Nation for a further two seasons, the team announced on Monday. Zabel has been with the squad since the start of the year, coming aboard along with a handful of others from Katusha.
“Rick has only been with us a few months, but the way he conducts himself and how he strengthens especially the lead-out train is great,” said team manager Kjell Carlström in a press release. “He has a great attitude and really helps the team towards success. It’s great that he chooses to continue with us.”
| Greek college student travels home from Scotland by bike
Kleon Papadimitriou, a student at the University of Aberdeen in Scotland, was over 2,000 miles from home when flights to Athens were shut down amid the coronavirus pandemic. As CNN reports, he decided to ride his bike most of the way home instead.
According to CNN, the 20-year-old bought a bike and then left Scotland on May 10 and spent 48 days bike-packing to his destination, catching a boat from Italy to Greece along the way.
“It’s just now dawning on me how big of an achievement this was,” he said, according to CNN. “And I did learn a lot of things about myself, about my limits, about my strengths and my weaknesses. And I’d say I really hope that the trip inspired at least one more person to go out of their comfort zone and try something new, something big.”
