New three-day stage race added to the women's calendar in August
The Association Française des Coureurs Cyclistes (APCC) announced on Thursday the launch of a new women’s stage race that will take place this summer. The 2.1 Tour Féminin International des Pyrénées will be four stages long and is scheduled for August 5 to 7.
“This first edition of the Tour Féminin International des Pyrénées marks a decisive turning point for professional women’s cycling,” said Marion Clignet and Elisabeth Chevanne-Brachet, co-presidents of the AFCC. “Female participants now have the same status as male riders and are fully recognized by the world of professional cycling. The stages that make up this tour will give them a great opportunity to show the public that there is no longer any question of amateurism in their discipline.”
The race will start with a double day, two stages in one, with the third and fourth stages on the following two days. Stage 1 on the morning of the first day is a team time trial. The full details of the route have not yet been announced but it’s safe to say that, as the race takes place in the Pyrénées, climbing will be involved.
The highly anticipated Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift is scheduled to finish one week before the Tour Féminin International des Pyrénées.
