NBA Hall of Famer Reggie Miller Joins USA Cycling Board
Reggie Miller, a 1996 Gold medalist in basketball and 2012 Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame inductee, was voted onto USA Cycling’s Board of Directors on Tuesday morning.
Miller is joined by new board members Lucia Deng, a stalwart of the New York cycling scene, Ed Ewing, the co-founder of the Major Taylor Project, and Brendan Quirk, the CEO of Allied Cycle Works. The new board members were voted in as part of a broader restructuring within USA Cycling.
The new members join chairman Bob Stapleton as part of the 12-member board.
Miller’s experience as a star in one of America’s four major sports and insight as a national television broadcaster will provide an added boost to USA Cycling and makes him the highest-profile new member of the USAC board.
An avid mountain biker, Miller can be seen rubbing shoulders with the likes of Kate Courtney and others on the SoCal mountain bike scene when he’s not covering NBA games for TNT. He had even set his eyes on competing in the weeklong Breck Epic mountain bike stage race in Colorado before the event was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The five-time NBA all-star is also an influential voice in the current racial justice movement both nationally and within the cycling community. Miller spent considerable time in the NBA bubble covering games for TNT as the players navigated making their voices heard and demanding change.
Miller partnered with Castelli earlier this year on a “Say Their Names” jersey. The jersey featured a variety of racial justice movement slogans and phrases. All proceeds raised from sales of the jersey went toward the Equal Justice Initiative, a non-profit organization committed to ending mass incarceration and excessive punishment in the United States and challenging racial and economic injustices in American society.
