Milan Vader of Jumbo-Visma seriously injured in Basque Country crash
Milan Vader (Jumbo-Visma), the Dutch mountain biker-turned WorldTour road pro, was seriously injured in a crash at the Itzulia Basque Country on Friday.
As AD reports, the 26-year-old has been hospitalized in Bilbao, Spain, and has had stents inserted into his carotid arteries.
He reportedly suffered fractures to his vertebrae, collarbone, and shoulder blade in the fall, and he is currently under anesthesia.
The crash occurred with around 100 km left to race on stage 5 of the Itzulia Basque Country, with Vader going down while descending.
Jumbo-Visma team doctor Robert Kempers is with Vader and the Dutchman’s parents are traveling to Spain as well. For the moment, Jumbo-Visma has noted that Vader has been hospitalized but has not yet provided further details on his situation.
