Michael Woods tests positive for COVID on morning of final Tour de France stage

For Michael Woods, this Tour de France has one final kicker. On the morning of the final stage, his team Israel-Premier Tech announced that the Canadian had tested positive for COVID and would not be able to complete the race.

That crushing news for Woods comes at the end of a turbulent Tour for the Israel-Premier Tech team.

With the light came the shade: the abandonment of team leader Jakob Fuglsang with a broken rib, and positive COVID tests for Clarke, Froome, and now Woods. In total, Woods is the 39th rider to abandon the 2022 Tour de France.

This afternoon, his team will ride onto cycling’s most famous avenue with a depleted squad of four riders, while Michael Woods will rue the premature conclusion of his Tour de France so close to the final finish line.
