Matteo Spreafico out of the Giro after adverse analytical finding
Matteo Spreafico of the Vini Zabù-Brado-KTM team is out of the Giro d’Italia after being provisionally suspended by the UCI for an anti-doping rule violation.
According to a statement from the CUI, Spreafico registered adverse analytical findings for Enobosarm (also known as ostarine) in tests on both October 15 and 16, stages 12 and 13 of the Giro.
Spreafico can still request the analysis of his B samples.
The 27-year-old Italian, who joined Vini Zabu midway through this season after spending the past three and a half years with the Androni Giocattoli organization, was racing his first ever Grand Tour at this year’s Giro.
Enobosarm, a non-steroidal anabolic agent, is a Selective Androgen Receptor Modulator (SARM) that is banned under class S1.2 of the WADA Prohibited List.
In its statement, the UCI said that it “will not comment any further on this matter.” As of Thursday night, Vini Zabù-Brado-KTM had not made any public statements on the case.
