EF Education First’s leader Rigoberto Urán and former red jersey Nicolas Roche (Sunweb) are out of the Vuelta a Espana following a large crash in the early kilometers of stage six.

The crash also sent Urán’s EF teammate Hugh Carthy and CCC’s Victor de la Parte out of the race.

Roche initially remounted, but after checking in with the medical car the decision was made to abandon. He had led the race until Wednesday.

Though Jumbo-Visma didn’t lose any riders on the day, it had three key riders hit the ground: climber George Bennett and strongmen Tony Martin and Neilsen Powless. The team already lost Steven Kruijswijk, who was third at this year’s Tour de France, earlier in the race.
