Hello again, CyclingTips readers.
As you might have imagined, Thursday brought another day of racing in the virtual world and race rescheduling news in the real one.
Stefan Küng took a victory for the “home crowd” on the second day of the Digital Swiss 5. The Swiss time trial talent put his power on display over four virtual laps on a lumpy circuit on the Rouvy platform, topping Filippo Ganna and Michael Matthews to take the win.
Meanwhile, the UCI has announced that a working group is meeting to draw up plans for a revised women’s racing calendar. The governing body said that representatives of the teams, organizers, and riders are working together, reaffirming a goal of announcing a new Women’s WorldTour calendar by May 15.

| Küng comes through on day two of the Digital Swiss 5
Stefan Küng took the victory on the second day of racing at the Digital Swiss 5, which took riders over four laps of a virtually up-and-down circuit for a total of 46 kilometers on Rouvy.
Küng wasted little time in powering off the front and held on to take a convincing victory. Filippo Ganna took second, 47 seconds down, with Michael Matthews pipping Greg Van Avermaet for third, 1:28 back.
| UCI reaffirms goal of announcing new Women’s WorldTour calendar by May 15
The UCI announced on Thursday that a working group comprising representatives of teams, riders, and race organizers is in talks to plan out a revised women’s race calendar for 2020.
The UCI’s statement reaffirmed the governing body’s plan to announce a new calendar by May 15 “at the latest.”
| Trofeo Alfredo Binda cancelled
Organizers of the Trofeo Alfredo Binda said on Thursday that the 2020 edition of the race has been officially cancelled. The race was initially scheduled to run on March 22 and then postponed until June 2, but now will not be held until next season.
“This year, it just doesn’t seem right,” said Mario Minervino, president of the race organizing group. “This territory is going through a terrible period of suffering and we are not in a position to organize a cycling race. It is better to roll up the banners and wait until next year.”
| Jumbo-Visma director Richard Plugge is recovering from COVID-19
Richard Plugge, managing director of the Jumbo-Visma team, said in a post on LinkedIn on Wednesday that he is recovering from coronavirus.
Plugge explained that he was hospitalized more than six weeks ago and went through “an incredible tough fortnight with high fever and anxious moments.” Fortunately, he is on the road to recovery now.
| Elite men’s TT at Worlds could be moved
Het Laatste Nieuws reports that the UCI is considering shifting the men’s individual time trial at the upcoming World Championships so as to avoid an overlap between the event and the end of the Tour de France.
For now, the elite men’s ITT at Worlds is scheduled for Sunday, September 20, which coincides with the final stage of the newly rescheduled Tour. According to Het Laatste Nieuws, the UCI could move the TT to Wednesday, September 23.
