Jumbo-Visma and Adam Yates leave Tour de Suisse after Covid positives

COVID batters Tour de Suisse: Jumbo-Visma and Adam Yates out

Jumbo-Visma have left the Tour de Suisse before the start of stage five after someone within the team tested positive for Covid-19.

The Dutch team says they will not reveal the identity of the individual who tested positive and that they will leave the race “in the interest of the health of the riders and staff and to protect the peloton and the race”. However, the Tour de Suisse race director, Olivier Senn, told CyclingPro.net that four riders had tested positive.

“For the time being, the situation has no consequences for the Tour de France shortlist,” the team’s statement continued, “although we have to wait and see what happens in the next few days.”

Jumbo-Visma will now test riders and staff daily in order to isolate any other Covid positives. Masks and air purification columns in bedrooms are still common practice within the squad.

A couple of hours later the Ineos Grenadiers announced Adam Yates had also retired from the race after testing positive for Covid.

“In line with team and UCI protocols Adam Yates has this morning withdrawn from the Tour de Suisse after experiencing mild symptoms and returning a positive lateral flow test,” the team said in a statement.
