Ian Boswell outsprints Laurens ten Dam to win Unbound Gravel 200

It was a pair of former WorldTour pros at the finish: Ian Boswell vs Laurens ten Dam, churning it out up the long, straight finish stretch. At the line it was Boswell, in his first Unbound, with the victory.

The two had been part of a ever-shrinking lead group that was down to just 13 riders at the first timing point and then quickly slimmed to seven. With 10 miles to go in the marquee 200-mile event it was down to just the two.

“Honestly, just surprise,” Boswell said at the finish. “I haven’t won a bike race in a really long time. I mean, to just keep making splits and in the last 10 miles I knew it would be between Laurens and I.

“My first time here and I wouldn’t say I’m under-prepared, but I’m somewhat under-prepared I have less expectations on myself. Yeah, man, I couldn’t have come to the finish with a better person to sprint against. We’re both a little slow on the sprints, but it’s pretty incredible.”

Boswell retired from the WorldTour at the end of 2019 after stints with Katusha and Team Sky. He now works full time at Wahoo.

The battle for the final spot on the podium came down to two more former road pros, Pete Stetina and Ted King. Stetina took that sprint, claiming third, with King in fourth.
