Giro, Tour, Ceratizit Challenge, and Worlds: Annemiek van Vleuten outlines her 2022 plans
Annemiek van Vleuten (Movistar) has named some of her major objectives for the 2022 season, with the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift as a big goal and the Giro d’Italia Donne, the Ceratizit Challenge by La Vuelta, and the Road World Championships also standing out on her program.
The 39-year-old Dutchwoman outlined her plans in a video appearance during Movistar’s team presentation on Thursday.
“The Tour de France is my biggest objective [this] year, for sure,” Van Vleuten said. “I like challenges, and I’ll ride the three Grand Tours. I’m looking forward to preparing for these Grand Tours together with my whole team, the riders and the staff. It will be a big new objective for all of us. I’m very proud of the development of the team and that motivates me enormously.
“After the Tour de France, I will focus on Worlds in Australia with the Vuelta as preparation. The route in Australia seems hard and so it’s good for me.”
Over the course of her career, Van Vleuten has found plenty of success at each of the aforementioned events or their predecessors. She is a two-time winner of the Giro Donne, a one-time world road champion, the defending champ at the Ceratizit Challenge, and a two-time winner of La Course by Le Tour de France, which has been replaced this year with the Tour de France Femmes stage race.
Van Vleuten heads into the 2022 season coming off of an injury sustained at Paris-Roubaix, but after finishing as the UCI’s top-ranked rider last year and winning an Olympic gold medal in the time trial to boot.
