Geniez receives four-month suspended sentence for domestic violence conviction

Alexandre Geniez has received a four-month suspended prison sentence on charges of domestic violence.

The 33-year-old Frenchman was accused of instances of physical violence and verbal threats against his wife Lucie Garrigues. According to media reports, Geniez was alleged to have thrown a phone at Garrigues and made verbal threats, with another incident allegedly occurring 10 days later. Garrigues presented the court with medical certificates documenting the treatment of a frontal hematoma and a forearm hematoma.

Geniez admitted to throwing the phone and threatening Garrigues but denied other physical violence.

France Info reported in January that the prosecutor on the case had sought a six-month suspended prison sentence. On Wednesday, a judge handed down a four-month suspended sentence.

Geniez has continued to race throughout the proceedings, riding to eighth overall at the Saudi Tour and winning two stages at the Tour of Rwanda. As of Wednesday, TotalEnergies has not indicated that any disciplinary action will be taken against him.
