This weekend’s upcoming elite World Championship road races are sure to be all about the riders, but onlookers may also spot the occasional flash of a special bike or two. One such example is the Cube Litening Aero C:68X belonging to Biniam Girmay.
Riding this new bike built just for the Worlds, the Eritrean rider will line up as one of the key riders to watch on a course that could well suit the versatile sprinter from Intermarché–Wanty–Gobert Matériaux. It’s Girmay’s first year racing in the Elite category at the Road World Championships, having won a silver medal in the U23 category last year.
While Girmay is not the current National Road Champion, his special Worlds bike is painted in the colours of the Eritrean flag with a bit of sparkly confetti thrown in when the light hits it just right. It’s a bike that celebrates the rider’s impressive season, which includes winning Gent-Wevelgen and Stage 10 of the 2022 Giro d’Italia before an infamous podium cork took him out of the race.
It’s just the paint that separates this special bike from Girmay’s usual team bike, but either way, it’s quite stunning. Enjoy!
