Hello again, CyclingTips readers!

Have you gotten in any good rides in the New Year yet? Chris Froome has, as the four-time Tour de France champ was sure to document on social media on Friday.

Froome shared a photo of himself training with his Ineos teammates, complete with a caption poking fun at recent reports that he left a training camp early. It’s a move that definitely scores him a few points for cheekiness.

Whether he is back to his best in time for the Tour remains to be seen, but it’s at least an encouraging sign for his fans.

Speaking of getting ready for Grand Tours, rising star Remco Evenepoel is apparently gearing up to make his three-week racing debut at this year’s Giro d’Italia. Given the excitement Evenepoel brings to the races he starts, Giro organizers have to be happy with that announcement from his Deceuninck-Quick-Step team.

And in other news, the weekend is here! Enjoy it!

Until next time, readers.

Whether Chris Froome actually left a December training camp early or not, he is back at it now.

Remco Evenepoel, who won the Clásica San Sebastián last year and rode to second in the time trial at Worlds, will make his first career Grand Tour start at this year’s Giro d’Italia.

“It will be quite a big experience to see how I will feel and cope with the three weeks of demanding racing and the hurdles lying ahead, but at the same time, I’m very excited to just discover the Giro,” the 19-year-old Belgian said via a Deceuninck-Quick-Step press release. “The plan is to take it day by day, see how things will go, give my best every time and enjoy it while continuing to learn.”

| Viviani set to race both the Giro and the Tour

Speaking of the Giro, Elia Viviani has apparently changed tack after saying late last year that he would skip the race in 2020. Cofidis has unveiled the calendars of its marquee riders for the season ahead, and Viviani is slated to race both the Giro and Tour ahead of the Olympics. The 30-year-old Italian counts five Giro stage wins and one Tour stage win on his career palmares.

Viviani is set to get his 2020 campaign underway soon, with the Tour Down Under, Race Torquay, and the Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race coming up on his schedule.

Australian road nationals rolled on with the men’s and women’s criterium races on Friday. Racing on rain-slicked roads, Sam Welsford nabbed the men’s event ahead of Kaden Groves and Nicholas White, with Chloe Hosking narrowly topping Ruby Roseman-Gannon and Gracie Elvin for the women’s title.

Following successful tests of its manufacturing process, LeMond Carbon is forging ahead with plans to develop a new carbon fiber production facility, Composites Today reports.
