There was plenty of debate a few weeks ago about whether 2020 was really the start of a new decade. What with recent headlines, we’re not entirely sure what decade it is right now either: Banned doctor Michele Ferrari is back in the news.
Reports in Danish media on Sunday suggest that the Cycling Anti-Doping Foundation (CADF) has information linking Ferrari to Astana riders, including Jakob Fuglsang. Ferrari was banned for life after working with Lance Armstrong.
Ferrari, the Astana team, and Fuglsang have denied the alleged connection.

Denmark’s Politiken reported on Sunday that the CADF has received reports that doctor Michele Ferrari has been working with Astana riders. Ferrari was banned for life due to his relationship with Lance Armstrong, and athletes are banned from working with him.
According to Politiken, the CADF has information that suggests that Ferrari has met with Astana riders, including Jakob Fuglsang, and was present at last year’s Volta a Catalunya with the Astana team. Ferrari, Astana, and Fuglsang have all denied the alleged connection.
| Evenepoel wins Vuelta a San Juan
Remco Evenepoel finished safely on Sunday’s final stage of the Vuelta a San Juan to claim the overall race victory. The 20-year-old Belgian topped the GC podium with Filippo Ganna earning overall runner-up honors and Óscar Sevilla in third.
Fernando Gaviria sprinted to his third victory of the race in stage 7, pipping Peter Sagan and Álvaro Hodeg in San Juan.
| Dumoulin will return to racing in Valencia
After more than seven months away from competition, Tom Dumoulin will return to racing this week at the Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana.
Dumoulin last raced at the Critérium du Dauphiné in June of 2019 amid a season derailed by knee problems. His Valenciana start will mark his debut with the Jumbo-Visma team.
| Industry delays and shutdowns in China due to coronavirus
BRAIN reports that various businesses and officials in parts of China are extending a holiday closing period for the Lunar New Year until at least February 8 due to the coronavirus. The extended closures could lead to delays for bike industry shipments.
Furthermore, the ISPO Beijing trade show, initially planned for mid-February, has been canceled.
| Denifl: ‘I wouldn’t have gotten a contract without doping’
Stefan Denifl, who received a ban after being implicated by Operation Aderlass, admitted to doping at a court hearing Austria, but says that he is not a criminal.
Denifl, currently facing fraud charges, claimed that he “wouldn’t have gotten a contract without doping,” Radio Tirol reports.
