Chapeau for making it through the week! Caleb Ewan heralded the arrival of the weekend with his second stage win of this year’s Tour Down Under.
It’s early yet, of course, but Ewan has to be happy with the way his 2020 campaign has started so far.
In other news, away from the paved roads: UCI president David Lappartient told reporters in Australia this week that cycling’s global governing body is looking for ways to get involved in the gravel boom.
That could include a UCI-sanctioned gravel world championships at some point in the future. Interesting times…

| Ewan wins TDU stage 4, Impey gets closer on GC
Caleb Ewan nabbed Friday’s stage 4 of the Tour Down Under, sprinting to victory at the end of a 152.8-kilometer trek from Norwood to Murray Bridge.
Sam Bennett took runner-up honors on the stage with Jasper Philipsen in third. In the GC battle, Richie Porte remains in the lead, but Daryl Impey picked up a few bonus seconds to close within three seconds of him ahead of Saturday’s stage 5.
| Paris-Roubaix cobbled sector to be named after Degenkolb
As La Voix du Nord reports, John Degenkolb will have a sector of cobbles named after him at Paris-Roubaix.
In addition to being the winner of the 2015 edition of the race, Degenkolb has worked with the Amis de Paris-Roubaix organization and also helped save the Roubaix juniors event with a crowdfunding campaign in 2019. The 3.7-kilometer section from Hornaing to Wandignies-Hamage will be named for him on February 10.
| UCI mulls gravel involvement
UCI president David Lappartient said this week that the UCI is looking into how it can be more involved with the growing world of gravel racing.
Although Lappartient did not provide too many specifics of what that might look like, he noted that the organization has had internal talks on the subject recently, and that a gravel world championships is a possibility.

Lachlan Morton and Mitch Docker are well known for their flowing locks and facial hair, but both riders decided to go in for a shave in a fundraising effort for the The Salvation Army Bushfire Relief Fund. There are some great images of the action on social media, including this photo of the pair post-cut from the Life in the Peloton Instagram story.
