Racing fans will be happy to learn that, as far as we know, no human or animal spectators caused any major crashes in the third stage of the Vuelta a San Juan.
Belgian wunderkind Remco Evenepoel stormed to victory in Tuesday’s time trial, taking the race lead in the process.
In other news, Jumbo-Visma is apparently considering the possibility of adding a women’s team. Although details are sparse at the moment, according to Bicycling Nederland, managing director Richard Plugge says he has been looking into the idea for a little while now.

| Evenepoel surges into San Juan lead
Remco Evenepoel powered to his first victory of the season in the stage 3 time trial at the Vuelta a San Juan, moving into the race lead in the process.
The 20-year-old Belgian topped Filippo Ganna and Óscar Sevilla in the 15.2-kilometer TT and sits 32 seconds ahead of Ganna in the overall standings with four stages to go.
| Jumbo-Visma considers women’s team
According to Bicycling Nederland, Jumbo-Visma managing director Richard Plugge is considering the possibility of adding a women’s team, with the Boels-Dolman’s squad, currently looking for new sponsors, as a possible avenue towards that goal.
“Perhaps the team will disappear, maybe it will restart, but riders will probably be released,” Plugge said. “In any case, we have the impression that there is room for us to build up our own women’s team from the ground up.”
| Dutch anti-doping head advises against ketones
Speaking of Jumbo-Visma, De Limburger reports that the head of the Dutch anti-doping authority, Herman Ram, says he is “uncomfortable” with the team’s use of ketone supplements.
“It is a legal nutrition but, at the same time, too little is known about the possible health consequences,” Ram said. “That makes it a grey area. It is not on the doping list, but if we receive questions from athletes, we advise them not to use ketones.”
| Sagan’s early-season program
Peter Sagan, currently at the Vuelta a San Juan, will take a break from racing to train at altitude in Colombia in next month and then return to competition at Strade Bianche, Cyclingnews reports.
The monthlong break before his Classics goals is in line with Sagan’s approach over the past few seasons. He has not raced the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad since 2017.
