| Dowsett will make another run at the hour record

Former UCI Hour Record holder Alex Dowsett will make another attempt at the record before the end of the year.

The 32-year-old Briton, who held the record for just over a month in 2015 before his mark was bested by Bradley Wiggins, said on Tuesday that he will make another run at the record on December 12 at the Manchester Velodrome. His 2015 mark stood at 52.937 kilometers; Wiggins set the new mark at 54.526, and then Victor Campenaerts bested that to set the current record at 55.089 km in April of last year.

“In terms of difficulty, this time around I know the bar has been set extremely high by Victor,” Dowsett said. “It’s going to be a very big ask but I think I’m capable.”

| EF, Cannondale, USA Cycling link up to start collegiate cycling programs at HBCUs and TCUs

EF Pro Cycling, Cannondale, and USA Cycling are joining forces to fund and launch collegiate cycling programs at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and Tribal Colleges and Universities (TCUs).

Inspired by the new collegiate team at St. Augustine’s University, the first collegiate program at an HBCU, the initiative will start in 2021 with a three-year commitment to fund two new cycling programs at one HBCU and one TCU.

“We believe that cycling is for everyone. Yet, in reality, not everyone feels welcome or has access today,” said Mary Wittenberg, EF Pro Cycling President. ”We want to help increase diversity in our sport, starting with racial diversity in cycling in the USA. Success will require a comprehensive approach across the industry, so we turned to USA Cycling to talk about how we could best target our energies in concert with others looking to help from grade school to masters-age athletes.”

Speaking of EF, Tejay van Garderen has extended his contract with the team and will ride on with the squad into 2021, he said on Instagram on Tuesday.

The 32-year-old American joined EF at the start of 2019 after spending seven seasons with the BMC squad. In his first year with EF, van Garderen rode to second overall at the Critérium du Dauphiné, but pulled out of the subsequent Tour de France with a broken thumb. | Simmons’s suspension is reportedly over

Cyclingnews reports that Trek-Segafredo’s Quinn Simmons is no longer suspended.

Trek-Segafredo said on September 30 that the 19-year-old American would be suspended “until further notice” for “statements online that we feel are divisive, incendiary, and detrimental to the team, professional cycling, its fans, and the positive future we hope to help create for the sport.” Earlier that day, Simmons had responded to a tweet from José Been that included the words “If you follow me and support Trump, you can go” with a tweet saying “Bye” that also included a hand-waving emoji with a Black skin tone.

Trek-Segafredo clarified the following day that “Quinn Simmons was not suspended because of his political views. He was suspended for engaging in conversation on Twitter in a way that we felt was conduct unbefitting a Trek athlete.”

As of Tuesday, that suspension has reportedly been lifted, with Simmons set to attend Trek-Segafredo’s upcoming training camps.
