De Vuyst’s B-sample also positive

Sofie De Vuyst’s B-sample has returned a positive result for an exogenous steroid, Het Laatste Nieuws reports.

De Vuyst, awarded the Flandrienne of the Year award at the end of the 2019 season, had initially been notified in November of an adverse analytical finding registered on September 18 in the run-up to Yorkshire Worlds.

At the time, De Vuyst was finishing out her contract with Parkhotel-Valkenburg before a planned transfer to Mitchelton-Scott. After news of her anti-doping violation emerged, however, Parkhotel-Valkenburg suspended her to close out the year, and Mitchelton-Scott suspended her contract pending the results of her case.

De Vuyst wrote on Facebook that she would “try to do everything to prove my innocence and clear my name.”

According to Het Laatste Nieuws, that now includes seeking legal assistance from lawyer Johnny Maesschalck, who recently worked with Denise Betsema, to help her build her case following her B sample positive.
