Welcome to the last month of a year that, I suspect, few of us will forget any time soon. Tuesday’s cycling headlines include news on E3 and the status of Shirin van Anrooij, as well as a quick Esports Worlds update.

The inaugural event is just over a week away, and if you aren’t all that excited about it yet, maybe you’ll find that missing stoke knowing that a rider who was simply too strong for Zwift back in March has been added to the start list.

| De Gendt will race Esports Worlds

Thomas De Gendt is set to race Esports Worlds, which will take place next Wednesday, December 9, after a “last-minute wildcard” invite, according to Belgian Cycling.

The 34-year-old will put his big engine on (virtual) display a little over eight months after he was kicked from a Zwift race when his power output tripped Zwift’s anti-cheating mechanisms. He joins an already strong Belgian squad that also includes Hour Record holder Victor Campenaerts and Zwift specialist Lionel Vujasin, among others.

| E3 adds climbs for 2021

As Het Laatste Nieuws reports, organizers of the E3 Saxo Bank Classic – the name change comes after Saxo Bank purchased BinckBank – have made some adjustments to the race route for next year. The 2021 edition of the event will feature a total of 17 hellingen after the addition of three new climbs and the subtraction of the Hogerlucht.

Next year’s race will add the Kanarieberg, Oude Kruisberg, and Eikenberg to the parcours. The first two will come early in the succession of climbs while the Eikenberg, a cobbled ascent of 1.25 kilometers at a 6.2% average grade, will feature as the racing is really heating up as the 11th climb of the day.

| Van Anrooij leaves hospital in Czech Republic

Shirin van Anrooij has left the hospital in the Czech Republic where she was being treated after suffering an arm wound in a crash at the recent Cyclocross World Cup round in Tabor. Her Telenet Baloise Lions team said on Tuesday that she was evaluated by a doctor in Belgium and will receive further treatment.

Van Anrooij left Sunday’s race and was taken to a hospital after suffering a deep gash in her forearm, with her team saying that she “was injured by a piece of a disc brake.” The junior world ‘cross champ underwent an operation in the Czech Republic before traveling to Belgium.
