Davide Formolo suffered a wrist injury after colliding with a wild boar

Davide Formolo (UAE Team Emirates) is dealing with some wrist issues after crashing last Monday amid a run-in with a baby wild boar while he was out on a training ride.

Formolo recounted the incident on social media on January 3, saying, “It was a quiet Monday morning until a wild boar took aim at my front wheel.” On Tuesday, he followed that up with further details in a conversation with La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“I was going down fast, going to the right and a baby boar ran across the road. I couldn’t help it, he hit my front wheel with his head. I fell,” Formolo said.

“I was going down at 60 kilometers per hour and I found myself on the ground. We are still working a lot on the right wrist, we are still afraid that there is some fracture. Nothing seems to be broken, but there are many small bones in the hands and it takes ten days to show any fractures.”

The 29-year-old Italian says that he has spent some time on his time trial bike since the incident, but is not yet able to stand up on the bike.
