Contador’s reaction after his team’s first Grand Tour stage win is everything

After Lorenzo Fortunato took his first professional win on the snowy roads of the mighty Zoncolan he could barely contain his excitement.

“I’m very happy for today,” said Fortunato after the stage. “In the car with Stefano Zanatta, Sean Yates, Ivan Basso, and Jesús Hernández, and Alberto, who is in the team, I think it is the minimum I can do to win this stage, and now we’ll look for others.”

Elsewhere in the world, Alberto Contador celebrated a sensational win by Fortunato like a father would celebrate the accomplishments of his son.

The 2021 Giro d’Italia is EOLO-Kometa’s first appearance at a Grand Tour, having made the step up to UCI ProContinental status only this year. The team is run by two former Giro winners, Ivan Basso and Contador as well as Contador’s brother Fran.

Earlier in the Giro, the team nearly won stage 8 with Francesco Gavazzi, but the Italian was bested by Victor Lafay.

Given it was EOLO-Kometa’s first professional win, Contador’s reaction is entirely understandable. Before the start of the Giro, Contador promised he would ride from Madrid to Milan, more than 1,600 km if his team won a stage. Well, Alberto, saddle up! Don’t forget to pack some snacks for your upcoming adventure.
