Citroën will become a title sponsor of AG2R La Mondiale for 2021

The AG2R La Mondiale team is getting a new title sponsor for next season.

The French WorldTour outfit, among the longest running teams in cycling’s top division, will be known as AG2R Citroën from 2021.

The squad announced the new partnership with the French automotive company on Thursday on social media, but did not offer details on the nature of the sponsorship arrangement. The team only said that further details would come at a press conference before the Tour de France.

The team has been known as AG2R-La Mondiale since the 2008 season.

Citroën has made limited sponsorship forays into cycling in the past, but the move to become a title sponsor of a WorldTour squad would represent its biggest push in that direction to date. It also represents the second WorldTour-level automobile sponsorship announced this month after Ineos said last week that the team would become the Ineos Grenadiers (to promote a new four-wheel drive vehicle called the Grenadier).

The AG2R team’s change of sponsors could also coincide with a reshuffled roster. Reports have emerged in recent weeks suggesting that team leaders Romain Bardet and Pierre Latour may be headed elsewhere, while a handful of other big names, including Greg Van Avermaet, have been rumored to be possible additions for the squad during transfer season.
