Ciccone extends with Trek-Segafredo through 2024, tries hand at acting

Giulio Ciccone has extended his contract with Trek-Segafredo, signing a deal that will keep him with the squad through 2024.

The 26-year-old Italian has been with the team since the start of 2019, his first season at the WorldTour level after three years at Bardiani-CSF.

A talented climber, Ciccone counts two Giro d’Italia stage victories and the 2019 Giro king of the mountains title on his career palmares. He has also taken one-day victories at the Trofeo Laigueglia and the Giro dell’Appennino and stage wins at the Tour of Utah and Tour du Haut Var, in addition to spending two days in yellow at the 2019 Tour de France.

Given his results, Ciccone has moved into leadership roles at big races for the team. He is set to ride the Giro d’Italia this year alongside Vincenzo Nibali, and then he is expected to be the team’s top option for the Vuelta a España.

“We are very happy we can rely on Giulio for the future,” said Trek-Segafredo manager Luca Guercilena. “Ciccone has the potential to become a leading rider in the WorldTour. Year after year he has grown, and he has become a more solid rider. We wanted a three-year deal because we believe he can improve even more into a charismatic and winning captain of our team.”

With three more seasons together with Ciccone secured, Trek-Segafredo put some production value into announcing the news.
