Chris Froome will return to racing at the UAE Tour
Some seven months after the crash that left him with multiple fractures and derailed his 2019 season, Chris Froome will make his return to racing at the upcoming UAE Tour.
The four-time Tour de France champion offered an update on his plans via Instagram on Wednesday, confirming reports that he would kick off his 2020 racing campaign in the United Arab Emirates.
“Training’s been going really well over here in Gran Canaria so I’m really happy to announce that I’m going to be starting my season at the UAE Tour next month starting in Dubai,” Froome said. “It’s a race I missed out last year, so it’s a great place for me to start my season this time around.”
Following a long period off the bike and more than one operation, Froome has been working to build his form back to racing shape recently. He is currently training with teammates as he a looks to return to his best in time to contend for this year’s Tour de France.
Ineos has said that all three of its Tour winners – Froome, Egan Bernal, and Geraint Thomas – are targeting a start in the event this year. Getting back to racing represents a significant step in Froome’s journey towards that goal.
The seven-day UAE Tour, in its second edition this year, starts on February 23.
