Chris Froome is ready to start racing

After a delayed start to his season, Chris Froome is finally set to return to racing at Settimana Internazionale Coppi e Bartali on Tuesday. The four-time Tour de France champion suffered from an off-season knee injury that sidelined him for the opening months of 2022, but according to his Israel-Premier Tech team, he is ready to rejoin the peloton.

“It wasn’t an ideal start to the year, to be dealing with an injury, but I’ve worked hard to get my fitness back on track,” Froome said in a team statement. “Fortunately, it was only a minor setback. I’m looking forward to taking on the 2022 season with my first race being Coppi e Bartali. It’s always a great experience to race in Italy and I can’t wait to get out there with my teammates.”

Froome’s last race was Coppa Agostoni-Giro delle Brizane in October of 2021. Unfortunately, since he crashed pre-riding the course for the 2019 Critérium du Dauphiné time trial, Froome has struggled to regain the form that won him six Grand Tours. His Israel-Premier Tech team has repeatedly expressed positivity regarding his return to top form.
