Choking hazard fears prompt Zefal to voluntarily recall children's bottles

Fears over a potential choking hazard with a children’s water bottle have prompted French bottle manufacturer Zefal to announce a recall on all affected bottles.

In a statement on the Zefal website, the French brand announced it had identified a potential issue with the valve on the colourful children’s bottles. Testing conducted by Zefal indicates the valve may detach too easily in some cases.

Zefal is not aware of any incidents involving the bottles. However, given the bottles are designed for children, the French brand explains “out of an abundance of caution ZEFAL has decided to voluntarily undertake a recall of the affected bottles.”

Available in four colours, the affected bottles were in circulation from January 2017 until this week’s recall announcement. The bottles are easily identifiable, with a child-friendly design theme and smaller than regular bidon dimensions at 158mm tall with just 350ml of capacity.

Zefal recommends that anyone in possession of an affected bottle stop using it immediately and contact Zefal to arrange a refund. Zefal requires the bottle cap is returned to an address in France. Zefal is issuing €5 refunds to all affected owners upon receiving the cap.
