Chloe Dygert wins pursuit world title and pulverizes world record, twice
American Chloe Dygert was on unstoppable form in Berlin, winning the women’s pursuit title at the track cycling world championships in a new world record time on Saturday.
Dygert, 23, dropped the world record to 3:16.937, defeating her rival Lisa Brennauer by over six seconds. Brennauer took home the silver medal.
It was the second time Dygert dropped the world record in a single day. She earlier posted a 3:17.283, lopping more than three seconds off her own existing world record. For a short time, until Brennauer posted a 3:18, Dygert held the three fastest times in history.
The ride makes Dygert a favorite for both the team pursuit and road time trial at the upcoming Tokyo Olympic Games. She was part of the world championship American team pursuit team earlier in the week, where she took a massive end-of-race pull for multiple laps at the end of the gold medal round.
