Check out EF’s wild Palace kit for the Giro d’Italia
EF Pro Cycling’s normal kit is mostly pink. The leader’s jersey at the Giro d’Italia is also pink. Something had to be done.
That something is a collaboration with legendary skate brand Palace. It is wild in a way cycling doesn’t often embrace.
“For a truly fresh perspective on the sport, we’ve teamed up with a company that is alien to cycling’s aesthetic, oblivious to its origins, and untrained in its traditions,” EF’s press release says.
EF’s clothing supplier Rapha built a brand on homage to a bygone cycling era, sleek styling and simple armbands. This kit runs kicking and screaming from that staid aesthetic. It has a big duck on it (the Palace duck, specifically). And many small ducks. There is a face on the right arm. Whose face? Somebody tell me.
The kit has already stirred much debate here at CyclingTips. Much hate flows through our Slack channels, but also much love. Which is the whole point: It doesn’t care if you don’t like it, it likes itself.
Taking a page out of the fashion world’s book, this Rapha x Pallace collabo capsule includes not just the pro kit but lots of off-bike wear and other accessories, all available for sale in limited quantities. Riders will spend their off-bike time in Palace designed T-shirts, long-sleeve T-shirts, caps, hoodies, Oxford shorts, and a Palace GORE-TEX jacket, all of which are available to consumers.
Along with the kit, the team will roll out in Italy on Palace-designed Cannondales, POC sunglasses, and helmets.
