Caja Rural-Seguros RGA left out of Vuelta a España
For the first time since 2012, Caja Rural-Seguros RGA will not line up to compete at the Vuelta a España. The Spanish team has long been present at their home Grand Tour but lost out on a wildcard entry in 2022, even after the race was granted a third wildcard entry by the UCI. Three other Spanish teams were tapped to race the three-week event starting in August; Euskaltel-Euskadi, Equipo Kern Pharma, and Burgos-BH.
As per usual, the top two UCI ProTeams Alpecin-Fenix and Team Arkéa-Samsic as well as the 18 WorldTeams will also be in attendance.
Euskatlel-Euskadi has only participated in the Vuelta a España once, in 2021, however a different team with the same title sponsor has raced previous editions. Burgos-BH has been invited to the Spanish Grand Tour since 2018 and won stage 5 in 2019. Kern Pharma will make their Grand Tour debut this year. The new ProTeam was formed in 2020.
Despite being one of the most active teams in the Vuelta a España Caja Rural-Seguros RGA has only ever won one stage, stage 15 in 2012 with Antonio Piedra.
