Bontrager’s new AW3 rubber, approved by a cat

Bontrager has released an updated range of its popular AW3 tyres to offer increased puncture protection while retaining ride quality.

The new tyres are available in two puncture-protection levels: the AW3 Hard-Case and AW3 Hard-Case Lite. The lite version features a sub-tread nylon and aramid weave and is available in all black or with a reflective sidewall.

Bontrager has further toughened the hard-case models with an additional bead-to-bead nylon layer added above the nylon/aramid weave, for increased protection and durability. However, the reflective sidewall is only available on the Lite tyres.

The new tyres will be available in 700 x 25, 28, 32, and 38 mm clincher-only options.

Bontrager claims a puncture resistance increase of 78% for the Hard-Case Lite compared to its predecessor. These claims have been back up with independent testing conducted by Wheel Energy, an independent tyre laboratory. Wheel Energy simulates real-world conditions in a controlled laboratory environment and conducts testing for bicycles, motorcycles, and all-terrain tyre manufacturers.

A proprietary compound Bontrager calls the TR-Endure is used in the new AW3 range. The TR-Endure compound is said to be more durable on any road surface and features a smooth centre paired with a textured shoulder to provide speed in a straight line and traction in the bends.

Bontrager’s 30-day Unconditional Guarantee means you can try the AW3 range safe in the knowledge if they are not to your liking you can return them. The No Flat Cat (see video below) also approves these tyres.

The AW3 range is available now at Trekbikes.com starting at US$59.99 / AU$69.99 / £39.99 / €39.99.
